e-MCM System · Sensor-free predictive maintenance

No sensors. No downtime. No doubts.

The e-MCM is an IoT device for continuous 24/7 condition monitoring of AC motors and generators. It acquires voltage and current directly from the electrical panel and — using a patented algorithm benchmarked against a dataset of over 10 million motors — builds a digital twin of the machine and detects developing faults up to 6 months in advance.

What it measures

  • Voltages Vr, Vs, Vt and currents Ir, Is, It
  • Supply frequency and actual rotation speed when inverter-fed
  • Imbalance in voltage and current
  • Load and power factor (cos φ)
  • Active and reactive power
  • Harmonics in current, voltage and total (THD-I · THD-V)
  • Instantaneous operating efficiency
  • Operating point relative to BEP
All from a single voltage and current acquisition at the panel.

What it detects

  • Loose baseframe and soft-foot
  • Static and dynamic mechanical imbalance
  • Parallel and angular misalignment
  • Drivetrain: belts, gearboxes, couplings
  • Rolling bearings (BPFO, BPFI, BSF, FTF)
  • Rotor: broken bars, eccentricity
  • Stator: windings, insulation
  • Cavitation, recirculation, turbulence
9 fault categories covered. Automatic diagnosis with colour code.

Where it excels

  • Submersible pumps and deep wells
  • Motors in ATEX zones (Zone 2)
  • Critical 24/7 assets with no sensor space
  • Machines already in service, no shutdown
  • Complex plants with supervisory integration
  • VFDs and direct-on-line starts
  • Compressors, fans, mixers
  • AC generators up to medium voltage
The only solution for environments where traditional vibration monitoring cannot reach.

Energy · Biomethane

Biomethane compression skid · 750 kW

Veneto · oil-lubricated screw compressor, 750 kW asynchronous motor, inverter, magnetic coupling. Skid ATEX Zone 2 certified.

+9 e-MCM
ordered by the same client after the pilot device
The challenge — the diagnosis — the result

The client needed a solution to anticipate faults without physical intervention on the machine. On a 1,000 m³/h plant, an unplanned 8-hour shutdown means approximately €8,000 in lost biomethane feed: anticipating faults is worth more than preventing them.

Adicomp UVG biomethane compression skid with WEG 750 kW motor
What we found
Self-learning of the skid's digital twin completed within days. Continuous tracking of imbalance, misalignment, bearing condition and stator parameters, with traffic-light alerts for each deviation.
What the client did
Field validation passed. After the pilot device, the same client ordered 9 additional e-MCMs to roll out predictive maintenance across their entire skid fleet.
Water · Water Utility

3 submersible pumps · water supply + wastewater

Veneto · submersible pumps fed from MCC1 (Pump 1 and Pump 2, 26 kW each) for civil water supply, and Pump 3 at 18.5 kW serving the industrial wastewater inlet tank.

< 3%
deviation between flow rate estimated by e-MCM and external inline meter: readings match
The challenge — the diagnosis — the result

On a submersible pump it is impossible to install accelerometers or process sensors. From voltage and current signals alone, acquired at the panel, the e-MCM estimates flow rate and head in real time, tracks the operating point against BEP, and detects cavitation, bearing anomalies and hydraulic blockages — even on sealed, inaccessible assets.

Two Artesis e-MCMs installed inside the pump station electrical panel
What we found
Pump 1 operates at 59% of BEP for over 95% of the time (hydraulic turbulence, bearing overload). Active cavitation on Pump 2 confirmed by PSD analysis in the 1800–3000 Hz band. On Pump 3 BPFO, BPFI and FTF bearing frequencies identified.
What the client did
After validating the system on the first two pumps, the same client added a third e-MCM for the industrial wastewater inlet pump. Now monitoring 3 pumps via Artesis Cloud.
